We have decided that we have given our all to this project and it's time for us to move on to pursue greater things. We went from having 13+ developers on the team to 1 developer and 1 designer, both of whom have lives and projects outside of Popcorn Time. However, the team size has gone the other way. Since 2016, this project has grown exponentially - both in its user base and in its functionality.
PopcornTimeTV was an Apple TV, iPhone and iPad application to torrent movies and tv shows for streaming. Thus, the only way iOS users can utilize its powers is to install it via Cydia.Popcorn Time for tvOS and iOS WE ARE BACK Unsurprisingly, Apple isn’t too accommodating of Popcorn Time and as such, won’t let it through the iTunes App Store moderation gates. I suppose the major catch with Popcorn Time for iOS, aside from the fact that it permits users to download and stream content from Torrents, is that the app is only available to those running jailbroken devices.
As per the release notes, it seems that neither have been baked into the very first version of the iOS app, although the authors of Popcorn Time do assure fans that they are working on implementing an integrated VPN service along with AirPlay and Chromecast support. The last we heard was that the official Popcorn Time for iPhone and iPad would include support for AirPlay and Chromecast streaming. At the time, it was noted that Popcorn Time for iPhone and iPad would become available in a matter of days, but while today’s official roll-out is slightly later than we’d hoped, it does appear to be a nicely refined experience worthy of the wait. With versions of the app already spanning most of the major platforms including Windows, Mac and Android, it was confirmed late in August that an iOS edition was in the making. You can say what you will about Popcorn Time – and let’s face it, most of what could be uttered about so-called "Netflix for Torrents" has already been said – but one cannot argue that those behind it aren’t frequent with their updates.
